Phyllis Haselhorst, South Dakota's Outstanding Auxilian of the Year

Phyllis Haselhorst, an active member of Avera St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary for 20 years, has been chosen “Outstanding Auxilian of the Year” for 2007 by the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries (SDAHA).

“This Auxilian has many wonderful qualities. She is positive, engaging, classy, caring and kind. She is always willing to be supportive and encouraging,” her nomination said. “Her knowledge, wisdom and insight make her a ‘treasure’ to our Auxiliary, our hospital and our community.”

Haselhorst has held all Auxiliary offices on the local level and has served as president and trustee on the state level. She is involved with scholarship, fundraising, historian, Santa’s Preview and Sister’s Luncheon committees, as well as serving as committee chairman for the scholarship and historian committees. She has worked on many Auxiliary projects and served as chairperson for numerous events.

Haselhorst, who received the award at the spring SDAHA convention, has volunteered at the hospital for 20 years, and has served as an Avera St. Luke’s Foundation board member and on the Hospital Advisory Council.

Avera St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary has more than 220 members who promote and advance the welfare of Avera St. Luke’s through service as fundraisers, ambassadors and volunteers. Members are involved in many different projects, including fundraising for scholarships, hospital needs and improvements such as mobility scooters that were recently purchased for use by visitors and patients.
