Massage therapy still popular at Avera St. Luke’s, 20 years after start
“Twenty years, and we’re just getting started…” is the theme for massage therapists at Avera St. Luke’s this week. They have been kneading and massaging away the stress and tensions of everyday life for people in the Aberdeen region and surrounding area for 20 years now, relaxing both the body and the mind.
To celebrate their 20th anniversary, an open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in the C Wing of the Midland campus, the home of Avera St. Luke’s Massage Therapy for the past two decades. Coffee and treats will be available, along with the chance to win prizes and a free chair massage.

Hospital consolidation stimulated health care progress
When it was announced 20 years ago that the two hospitals in Aberdeen would become one, health care changed direction in the Hub City. The consolidation of Dakota Midland and St. Luke’s hospitals meant the loss of two separate entities, but allowed the resurrection of a new and stronger organization now known as Avera St. Luke’s.

Nine registered nurses at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital have earned recognition as Level III clinicians in the hospital’s Nursing Professional Practice Program (PPP). Innovation through teamwork, dedication to caring, excellence in customer service, values of personal responsibility, and respect for self and others are supported through this program.

Avera Health Named 2008 Most Wired and Most Wireless
For the tenth consecutive year, Avera Health has been named to the nation’s MOST WIRED and for the fifth year MOST WIRELESS, according to the results of the 2008 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study released today in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. Avera Health is the only organization in the nation to be named to both lists since their inception.

As health care providers face a nationwide shortage of nurses, doctors and other professionals, Avera St. Luke’s is looking for tomorrow's caregivers in today's high school classrooms.
For area students attending the sixth annual Health Academy in Aberdeen, it proved to be an eye-opening encounter to see what goes on in a hospital and to find out about job opportunities in health care

Hospital construction leads to parking changes
Due to construction work on Avera St. Luke’s Same Day Surgery Center, on the first floor of the hospital’s new southeast addition, changes are being made to accommodate parking needs around the hospital.
Starting Wednesday, June 25, Visitor Parking Lot H, on the southwest side of Avera St. Luke’s across State Street, will temporarily change from visitor parking to physician parking. This will last for about the next two months, since the current physician parking lots south of the hospital will be closed because of construction. Visitors are encouraged to park on the east side of the hospital.
