New Imaging Center features latest technology
Getting an ultrasound, a CT exam or a mammogram just got easier. Avera St. Luke’s new Imaging Center offers the best and latest technology in digital mammography, ultrasound imaging and direct radiology, along with 16-slice CT and bone densitometry (DEXA), all in a convenient location with parking right near the door.
The center, located at 820 First Avenue S.E. in Aberdeen, just northeast of the hospital, is part of Avera St. Luke’s newly constructed $5 million Healthcare Plaza project. Space is also available for physician clinics.
As the only site in the region and just the second in South Dakota to offer the advanced diagnostic features of digital mammography, the Imaging Center features a new and powerful tool in the detection and fight against breast cancer. With one out of 8 women developing breast cancer in their lifetime, getting the best diagnosis possible is important. “This new system will revolutionize breast care,” said Lee Ann Tople , Avera St. Luke’s Director of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services. “It allows us to offer our patient state-of-the-art mammograms that are faster and easier than before. It also gives our referring physicians more accurate images to use in diagnosis.”
Digital mammography has been proven to be a better way to diagnose breast cancer for all women, but the new technology is especially effective for women under age 50. The Imaging Center ’s new system features a large detector to accommodate breasts of all shapes and sizes. Another highlight is Computer Aided Detection (CAD), which allows a computerized method of cancer detection by indicating areas of cancer on the image.
The new Imaging Center, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, also offers ultrasound, CT exams, bone density tests and direct radiology (X-ray) services, all available on an outpatient basis, without having to navigate through the hospital.
