
Avera Eureka Health Care Center
Avera Eureka Health Care Center is a 62-bed, long-term, Medicare-certified nursing facility in Eureka, SD. Avera EHCC is one of the largest employers in this community of 1,197 people. The center was one of the original facilities of the Lutheran Health System when it was formed in 1938.
In 1989, a new $1.8 million facility was constructed by North Central Health Services of Spearfish, SD. EHCC was part of North Central Health Services until 1993, when that organization merged with Lutheran Health System. In 2000 Lutheran Health System engaged in a merger with Samaritan Health in Arizona, and the corporate name was changed to Banner Health System. On April 30, 2002, Banner Health System transferred the ownership of Eureka Health Care Center to Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen, SD.
Changes improve look, energy-efficiency
The center continues to be one of the most attractive facilities in the area and boasts of 98.8 percent occupancy. Numerous projects have been completed in the last decade to create a more energy-efficient facility. A remodeling project redesigned the nurses’ work area and replaced hallway carpet and wallpaper.
Avera Eureka Health Care Center employs 75 staff members and has a payroll of $1.6 million. The management team brings a great deal of experience in long-term care, which serves as a strength for the organization.
